The Open Door

A Ministry to Those with Special Needs

The Open Door (logo)

In April of 2003, Sugar Creek began a new ministry focused on meeting the needs of children with special needs. “The Open Door” is a ministry with both children and parents in mind. With over 6,000 children registered in special needs programs through our local school districts, we know the challenges of many parents around us are more than they can bear alone. The Open Door is designed to come alongside parents and minister to them by helping to meet the extraordinary demands of raising a child who is differently abled.

Two fully-equipped special needs classrooms have been developed to provide an environment for learning and exploration. Trained and qualified staff are present each Sunday morning to meet the requirements for special needs care.

Currently, the special needs ministry provides care every Sunday morning, and through the following Open Door activities:

  • Vacation Bible School for Special Needs
  • A Day to Remember Day Camp
  • Break-Out: Friday night respite care (3rd Friday each month)

For more information on special needs events, check the children’s ministry event calendar.
